Is "Nerd Culture" Still a Thing?

With the proliferation of culture aimed at "nerds," I wonder if there is really such a thing as "nerd" culture anymore. Used to be, you had to "pay" a price of admission to be "in" on nerd culture. You had to actually remove yourself from society to make "Stack Overflow" jokes or casually reference the superiority of the "Python" programming language.

Now though, it's all right in the open. Sure, I can't expect everyone I talk to to get a casual reference to Ambush Bug, but I can expect more than a passing understanding of the construction of the DC Universe. Someone may not get the joke of an HTML pint glass, but with the slightest explanation, they will quickly understand (meaning, basically, that you no longer have to start with explaining what HTML is.)

So, is there a problem with all this? I don't know. Maybe I should be thrilled that there is no reason to hide my nerdy proclivities, but I feel like I'm missing out on being part of a smaller and more insular community.
